About the Artist
Nick Serbu teaches piano and trumpet. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from Shenandoah Conservatory. Nick Studied trumpet performance under Dr. Chuck Seipp (Army Concert Band – ret.), Craig Fraedrich (U.S. Army Blues – ret.), and Dr. Robert Larson (director of Jazz Studies, Shenandoah Conservatory). While studying his undergrad at Shenandoah Conservatory, he recorded the debut album of “Bees?”, a jazz fusion group based in Winchester, Virginia. After receiving his degree from SU, Nick studied on scholarship at the University of North Texas (he was a member of UNT’s 3 O’clock Lab Band in Fall ’18, and is a featured soloist on the 2 O’clock Lab Band album in 2019). He also recorded a live album with L.A. recording artist Roger Ingram while in Dallas, and has 2 featured solos on the album. After studying at North Texas, in early 2020, Nick was contracted as the sole trumpet player for the Majestic Princess, a cruise ship of Princess Cruises that is based in Australia. Now back in Virginia, he teaches in the northern Virginia as both a trumpeter and pianist.
Professional Experience
counselor/assistant at the National Jazz Workshop - participated as an assisting staff member at the National Jazz Workshop, a summer jazz workshop camp that takes places each summer at George Mason University and Shenandoah Conservatory.
Bees? - “Bees?” is a jazz fusion/funk group based in Winchester, Virginia. The group has released an album, “Buzzkill” in 2015, and toured New York and Connecticut that year following the release.
Small-group jazz - Nick has performed as a jazz trumpeter for various small groups for the past several years, and has performed as a headliner and a sideman at places like Twins Jazz Club and Blues Alley (Washington, D.C.) and has performed thoroughly in the Dallas, TX area.
the 2 O’clock Lab Band - while studying at the prestigious University of North Texas, Nick played a solo chair of the 2 O’clock Lab band, which releases a new CD each year. Nick is featured on 2019 edition.
recording sessions - while having numerous credits for recording sessions studying at Shenandoah Conservatory, Nick also recorded a live album with L.A.-based recording artist Roger Ingram, and is a featured soloist on 2 of the tracks throughout the record.
Cruise Ships - Nick began his career as a Cruise Ship musician in 2020, where he was hired as the sole trumpet player aboard the Majestic Princess, a ship with Princess Cruises. Nick was also contracted to Norwegian Cruise Line for the summer of 2020 before COVID-19 closed down all cruise ship entertainment.
